Personal Statement and Interests

I am interested in skin cancer because it affects so many people. It occurs in very visible places such as the head, neck, and arms, so preventing and treating skin cancer early can have a profound impact on people's lives. I joined the Skinsight team because it is a great way to disseminate information to the public, and I hope to make a difference in someone's early diagnosis and treatment.

I am thankful to teach the subtle art of medicine at Baylor Medical School, the same university where I received my education. In addition to my medical training, I have spent time in a research lab, studying the effects of sunlight on the skin, and feel very strongly about protecting the skin from ultraviolet rays. Preventing skin disease is often as important, if not more so, than treating it.

When I'm not working, I enjoy spending time with my husband and sons, 5 and 2. They keep me very busy, going to sports team practices and playing with trucks and trains. I play the piano and guitar and find relaxation in my music. I've also recently taken up the sport of golf, which I find challenging, and am hoping to play with my family someday.
