The stomach is a large area and, as such, is subject to many skin problems, but those listed below are a few that are typically limited to the stomach. Stretch marks (striae) are common to the stomach in many women, particularly as the result of pregnancy. However, stretch marks can also be caused by sudden weight gain or weight loss. Additionally, certain medications, such as corticosteroids, can also promote the formation of stretch marks. Sometimes, after using a Jacuzzi or some other type of public water source, the skin may become infected, known as hot tub rash (Pseudomonas folliculitis), caused by improper maintenance of the water.
