Day Nine: Laser Resurfacing

If younger looking skin is what you’re after, laser resurfacing can help improve discoloration, wrinkles, and acne scars. Be sure to consult your dermatologist before deciding on this procedure.

The use of lasers in dermatology has grown immensely. Lasers are used for everything from wrinkles, to scars, to blemishes. Laser resurfacing refers to the destruction of the superficial layers of skin to stimulate new collagen growth. This can help improve discoloration, wrinkles, and acne scarring and provide a more youthful appearance to the skin. The more intense the treatment, the more dramatic of a response – but with this also comes higher cost, higher risk, and longer downtime. These treatments should be reserved for those who have tried other cosmetic procedures and are after a more dramatic effect. The Fraxel® laser is among the most common of these devices.
