What is psoriasis?

Psoriasis is an inflammatory disease of the skin. Pink scaling plaques arise on the skin and often involve particular areas of the body such as the elbows, knees, and scalp. Psoriasis has a strong genetic basis and can begin at any age; however, it frequently begins in late childhood and during adolescence. In recent years, the understanding of psoriasis as an inflammatory-based disease has led to a whole new category of drugs for treatment.

Dr. Lowell Goldsmith and Dr. Jeff Bernhard contributed their expertise on behalf of VisualDx for the above information.
